In the year 1627, during the Eighty Years’ War, people fought over the small city of ‘Grol’. This city, where Spanish soldiers resided, would be captured after 30 days by the youngest son of Willem van Oranje. In Groenlo, the battle over Grol is re-enacted very year by hundreds of participants in historical clothing.
