The perfect Alibi
2008
Late February 2000 a man woke up along the highway near Breda (in Holland). It was raining and he was soaking wet. He tried to stop a car and before long two police cars stopped. When they questioned him he realised that he didn't remember anything, not even his name.
For half a year he was placed in a house of detention,
After 6 months he was turned out into the streets. He requested asylum at the advice of the police. in 2008 he was granted asylum and a name.
In 2008 I met with this man who named himself Martin Hills. I interviewed him with the intention to make a portrait of someone who could be everyone. I filmed with Stijn van Santen men in the streets of Paris and subtitled these images with a monologue of Martin Hills.
